J is for Jinx

Every time I say something out loud about Baby M, she makes sure to prove me wrong. It is like I have some sort of jinx put on me, because every good thing I say about her behavior, health, you name it, she soon does the opposite.

For instance, we had some friends stay over one night with their baby who was one month older than M. Their baby screamed and cried when it was bed time. My husband and I told them we never really had a problem putting baby M to bed in the then 8 months of her life. No joke, as soon as our friends leave the next day Baby M starts to fight us at bed time every night for the next 2 - 3 weeks straight.

As soon as she started eating solid foods I bragged to people about how she loves to eat certain things...the next day she wants nothing to do with those foods.

I say to someone she sleeps until 6-6:30 AM every day. The very next day she starts getting up at 5 AM, and has for the last week now...not fun for Mama or Dada at all.

I say to my husband, "we are lucky we all haven't been sick in a long time." Queue the sniffles, stuffy nose and sore throat for all three of us. Come on!!

And the latest and greatest...as most of you readers know, Baby M suffered from pretty severe reflux for the first 6 months of her life. When she was just 8 months old, and hadn't been showing any signs of reflux for 2 months, we stopped giving her the Zantac she was taking twice daily, and for weeks she was golden. I say to my mother two weeks ago, "Isn't it great she doesn't throw up anymore? And we can lay her down right after eating with no problem?"

Like she is out to prove me wrong, the next day the symptoms are back!!! WTF? And they are worse than ever. Because she has been eating so many different types of solids, she is having trouble digesting them and her reflux kicked back in. We had a crazy scare with her not being able to breathe when laying down on her changing table, and she has been projectile vomiting again, so we are back on the Zantac and back to all of our habits (lots of burping during feedings, no laying down for 30 minutes after feedings, etc.).

What is the deal baby girl? Why are you out to drive your Mama insane? If this is what she does to me now, wait until she actually understands what I am saying...Oye! Can she stay with you for her teenage years?

  1. I think it is all babies. I have actually tried to stop verbalizing any "nevers" and "always" b/c it seems each time I say it out loud, it changes!! Sorry M is not digesting well. :(
